Employees and Workforce

Diverse workforce

We work with our partners to promote and encourage diversity as we recognise the value this will add to our business. We continually look for ways to increase diversity across our workforce and most recently we have been involved in promoting career opportunities for women in construction. As a sponsor of WOMEN’STEC we recognise our role leading gender equality across the industry. We were particularly proud to be awarded the Best Gender Initiative at the 2020 Northern Ireland Equality & Diversity Awards. We were also Highly Commended in the Best Employer for Equality and Diversity and Best Race Initiative categories.

Gilbert-Ash has been awarded the Bronze Diversity Charter Mark for our ongoing commitment to gender diversity. The company has been recognised three years in a row for its commitment to advancing gender diversity in the workplace, the first construction firm in Northern Ireland to have done so.

In addition, we are also proud to support Stonewall, Europe's largest lesbian, gay, bi and trans (LGBT) charity. Together we are stronger.

Training and development

We recognise the importance of investing in the professional development of our employees and supply chain. We have received Investors in People Gold Accreditation and are pro-actively working towards our Platinum Accreditation as we continue to develop the knowledge and expertise of our team while ensuring we attract new talent into the business. We engage with a range of industry training partners throughout the UK to deliver training and development opportunities right across our business and we work in partnership with the Chartered Institute of Building, the world's largest and most influential professional body for construction management and leadership.

Health and wellbeing

We are committed to the health and wellbeing of our employees and supply chain. We therefore believe in taking a proactive approach by identifying employee wellbeing issues that we use strategically to increase the level of knowledge, understanding and access to support on a wide range of related topics. We work with industry partners including Business in the Community and Build-Health to develop and support initiatives such as the Workplace 2020 Stress toolkit for Line Managers. We have also introduced Spirit Level, our Health and Wellbeing Group, which shares information and strategies for tackling mental health issues as well as signposting employees to appropriate services.

Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality

We are committed to ensuring the health and safety of everyone involved in our projects, protecting the natural environment throughout all of our operations, and encouraging a culture where we can continue to improve our overall business performance.

Building Relationships through Social Value

Gilbert-Ash is committed to maximizing the positive impact we can have in the communities we work in. This includes providing opportunities for apprenticeships, placements and the long-term unemployed.

We are committed to responsible business by operating in an ethical and transparent manner.
